Our Story

Capwell started out as a senior design project at the University of Pennsylvania in 2021. Our teammate, Walter, told us about a problem he had come across in his hometown of Pittsburgh: abandoned and orphaned oil & gas wells. We spoke with industry experts in the government, the private sector, and academia to understand what was currently done and how we could improve it. What we came up with is Capwell: a modular, portable, and inexpensive solution to eliminate methane emissions from these wells.

In the two years since launching, we’ve made great progress raising funding, building our solution, and piloting it. We are now commercializing our system and are excited to launch it soon for businesses and governments to use! Andrew Lane
CEO

Andrew is a mechanical engineer graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with an Entrepreneurship minor. His prior experience in Oil & Gas and passion for sustainable production drives Capwell’s vision.

Lucien Peach
CTO

Lucien has a master's degree in robotics from the University of Pennsylvania. His proficiency in controls, electronics, and mechanical design enables him to head the technical development of Capwell's industry-leading methane abatement solution.

Tomas Pinilla
COO

Tomas is a mechanical engineer graduate from the University of Pennsylvania. He is part of the founding team and brings his startup and operations experience to the table.
